Representation in Women’s Health
Saves Lives

Black women in America face a maternal mortality crisis. According to the CDC, Black women are two to three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women — regardless of income or education level.

Research published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences found that Black newborns are significantly more likely to survive when cared for by Black physicians. The same principle extends to OB/GYN care throughout a woman’s life.

When you see a doctor who shares your cultural experience, you’re more likely to ask hard questions, advocate for yourself, and receive care that accounts for the full picture of your health. That’s not a small thing. That’s everything.

This directory exists because finding that doctor shouldn’t take hours of searching. It should take seconds.

Higher Maternal Mortality Risk Black women are 2–3× more likely to experience pregnancy-related complications, per CDC data.

What an OB/GYN Can Help You With

An OB/GYN is your partner in health from your first gynecological visit through pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond. Here’s when to call:

  • Annual well-woman exam and Pap smear
  • Pregnancy confirmation, prenatal care, and delivery
  • Birth control counseling and family planning
  • Abnormal periods, pelvic pain, or fibroids
  • Menopause management and hormone therapy
  • STI screening and sexual health
  • Minimally invasive gynecologic surgery

You Deserve to Be Heard

Too many Black women leave medical appointments without their concerns fully addressed. You have the right to ask questions, request a second opinion, and expect your pain to be taken seriously.

When you walk into an OB/GYN’s office, you should feel safe, respected, and fully informed. If you don’t — find a doctor who will give you that.

The physicians on this directory have built practices grounded in that belief. They understand that the standard of care should be the same for every woman, regardless of race.

  • Ask about all your treatment options — not just one
  • Bring someone you trust to your appointments
  • Document your symptoms before you go in
  • Request a copy of all test results and records

Frequently Asked Questions

Research consistently shows that patients experience better outcomes, higher satisfaction, and more open communication when seeing a race-concordant physician. For Black women — who face disproportionate maternal mortality rates — having an OB/GYN who understands your cultural context isn’t just a preference, it can be life-saving.
Most providers listed are currently accepting new patients, but availability changes frequently. We recommend calling the office directly or clicking the “View Profile” link to check current availability and verify which insurance plans are accepted before scheduling.
An OB/GYN provides general obstetric and gynecological care for women at all life stages. A Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) specialist is an OB/GYN with additional fellowship training — typically 2–3 years — focusing on high-risk pregnancies, genetic disorders, and complex fetal conditions. If your pregnancy is considered high-risk, you may be referred to an MFM specialist in addition to your regular OB/GYN.
Insurance networks change frequently. The most reliable way to verify your coverage is to call the doctor’s office directly and provide your insurance card information, or check your insurance carrier’s online directory. Most practices listed accept major Florida insurance plans, Medicare, and Medicaid — but always confirm before your visit.
